Not Soft or Sweet or You

I'm getting married to the love of my life in a couple weeks. Then, I am going to basic training for 10 weeks. When I come home, this is what I will come home to. My fiance will have already departed for Japan, where he will be away one whole year.
When we graduated college to become teachers we never dreamed supporting ourselves and paying our college loans would be this difficult. We applied to many places, only to find that nepotism got interviews, not skill. In order to pay our loans we each applied to different venues of service. He applied for work abroad, I applied for Officer Candidacy in the US Army National Guard.
I was slotted for Officer Candidate school a mere two weeks before he got the call to tell him he'd been accepted to the very prestigious JET program. I'm not sorry for the journey I'm about to embark on, nor am I sorry he got his job. I'm simply sorry our paths had to part for whatever amount of time.
I will not be coming home to a warm bed. I will not be coming home to an apartment, quaint but a good place to nestle. No, I will be coming home to these things. I guess this photograph is supposed to express that.
If I could have one wish, it wouldn't be that I never entered the service (not at this point anyways). If I had one wish, it would be that I could visit him a few times over the next year for twenty or so days at a time (between drill dates).
That being said, I wish all you army spouses, and partners of those living abroad (for whatever reason), the best. God bless you and know that you can share your woes with me. I realize it can be hard all alone.
